The Catskill Scenic Trail lies on top of the former rail bed of the Ulster & Delaware Railroad. This 19-mile Rails to Trails project offers a hard-packed surface that makes it perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding during the warm months. You can pick up a full or half-day rental of a 24-speed bike at the Roxbury General Store including a helmet and lock. Alternatively, arrange a bike drop off and shuttle service through Plattekill.
Just a couple of miles away from the Roxbury Barn, the Farmers Market at the Round Barn is held from mid May through mid October. Area farmers and artisans gather to share their creativity and bounty. The market runs Saturdays from 9am – 2pm. Local, organic and sustainable farms, crate farms, pasture raised meats, trout, cheeses, breads as well as bedding plants for your garden and patio. Make it your brunch start of the big day as there are food vendors and picnic tables. Artisans also sell jewelry, soaps, quilts, wool, wood products and more.
Roxbury General on Main Street, offering a variety of carefully curated crafts, gifts, home wares, and clothing. Also check out Phil’s Corner Store across the street, for gifts, magazines, and papers. Just a mile down the road on Route 30 is Rick’s Barn, for some serious antiquing, and 768 Main nearby Margaretville offers cool vintage items. To all book lovers: don’t miss Hobart Book Village!
Roxbury is home to beautiful Shephard Hills: a 9-hole course with gorgeous views of the Catskills, built by the railroad magnate Gould family in the early 1900’s. Six miles away from the barn is Hanah’s Golf Course and Country Club: an 18-hole championship golf course with a 3-star Golf Digest rating.
Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm in Halcottsville offers rentals of single or double crafts. They also offer life vests, paddles and whistles for the day. Bring a camera, a picnic, or a fishing pole and spend the day on the water.
The newest addition to Roxbury is Petra Estiatorio. Gorgeously situated, this place serves spectacular Greek and Mediterranean cuisine – 7 days a week for both lunch and dinner! Roxbury’s own gourmet food truck, Ate-O-Ate, regularly parks the truck right in town – don’t miss their culinary treats. Public Restaurant serves dinner and cocktails, and Queens Mountain Cafe serves the best coffee in Roxbury, plus paninis and home made ice-cream. Main Street’s Cassie’s Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, and neighboring East Branch serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The T Bar & Saloon, just minutes away from Main Street, is open for drinks and pizza.
